Vietnam’s GDP growth rate reached 8.2% in 2025. At the same time, the country’s GDP expanded significantly, increasing from approximately USD 380 billion in 2024 to around USD 514 billion, representing an increase of approximately 1.35 times.
In the first half of 2025, foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 32.6%, reaching USD 21.5 billion—the highest level recorded since 2021.
As of 2026, Vietnam’s total population is estimated at approximately 102 million to over 103 million people, ranking 16th in the world by population size and 3rd in Southeast Asia, after Indonesia and the Philippines. With a median age of approximately 31–32 years, Vietnam is also one of the countries with a relatively young population in the Southeast Asian region.
Between 2022 and 2025, Vietnam’s crude birth rate (the number of births per 1,000 people per year) ranged from 13.83 to 14.61, compared with just 6.00 to 6.98 in Japan during the same period.
In Vietnam, approximately 68% of the total population is of working age (15–64 years old), providing the country with a large and relatively young workforce.

Many of the world’s leading technology and electronics companies, including Samsung and Apple, are expanding their operations in Vietnam. At the same time, Vietnam has signed 17 free trade agreements (FTAs), providing further momentum for export growth in the years ahead.
The number of Japanese companies operating in Vietnam is increasing rapidly each year.

Takashimaya plans to expand its presence in Hanoi and Hai Phong by developing large-scale shopping centers, while also increasing its investment in both commercial and non-commercial real estate.
Its profit is projected to increase from approximately JPY 4 billion in 2024 to approximately JPY 10 billion by 2031.
In 2025, Japan’s exports to Vietnam increased by approximately 14%, reaching USD 24.7 billion.
